Tuscany - day 18 - Drive to Villa Pittana

We left our huge apartment in Florence at 11am but before we did we went for one last walk to our favourite cafe and had 2 cappuccino's and a honey croissant for 3 euro and that was sitting outside too. It's usually a lot more expensive than that.

Our favourite little cafe in the middle of the photo.

On our walk we came across yet another church and the statue of Dante Alighieri.

I love this photo....Tony was being very arty!

We picked up our rental car from Avis and proceeded to head out of Florence driving on the strange side of the road. I had a few frights on the way but, Tony as cool as ever, proceeded to drive our way into Tuscany without a problem and to the lovely place we are staying at for 2 nights.....Villa Pitiana. It took us about 1 1/2 hrs with a stop along the way.
Tuscany is just beautiful, green, old and rustic....I really love the countryside and it has certainly lived up to my expectations.

Our room is huge, very old.....dating back to 1039....we are staying in the oldest part of the building that used to be a Monastery. It is a bit run down and rustic but I wouldn't have it any other way. Would you like another history lesson?

Villa Pitiana is a typical Tuscan fortified farmhouse built in 1039. It developed and prospered under the Benedectine Monks due to it's highly fertile land. It has been owned by several noble families but today Villa Pitiana is a holiday destination and still maintains it's own production of olive oil and wine.

These 3 photos are from their website and the views are spectacular!

I was told about some shopping outlets in the area and Tony was feeling like another drive on the other side of the road .... true!! ... we drove 15 mins down the road to a place called The Mall in Leccio. In the beautiful Tuscan countryside this mall of designer outlet shops really stands out. I just had to pop in a take a look but that's all I did as the prices were still very expensive but still nice to have a look around.

It's turned cold again and who would have thought I'd be wearing my new leather jacket so soon.

On our way home we dropped in to pick up supplies for our stay.....

The main part of the grand villa has a dining room and a few lounge rooms to sit back and listen to the music and a bar. The funny thing is that we could only pick up wireless Internet connection in the bar.....I wondered if they did that on purpose! Oh dear! What a shame.

Tomorrow we are going to Arezzo, which is about 30 mins down the road, for sightseeing and photo opportunities for Tony and a little birdie has told me there is another fashion outlet on the way....Prada! What a happy day for both of us.
