Florence - day 14 - train from Naples to Florence

I was dreading the train ride to Naples (with all our luggage in tow) from Sorrento as I'd already experienced part of the trip going to Pompeii two days ago but as we approached the train I saw that it was a shiny new train with air con......hmmmm! Looks can be deceiving. Now, three things I dislike - public transport, crowded public transport and standing up on public transport. I had hit the jackpot today hahaha! My mantra was going overtime on this one hour trip to Naples: "it's all part of the holiday experience, it's all part of the holiday experience". What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? I breathed a sigh of relief when we arrived in Naples ready for our next train ride to Florence. Tony is a veteran of public transport so it didn't worry him at all.

Our trip to Naples.....it got more crowded than this.

The train ride to Florence was very civilized and took about 3 hrs. We were going through the countryside that we will be visiting in a few days time when we drive through Tuscany. I saw quite a few castles on our journey....this sort of public transport was fantastic it was like being on a plane.

Welcome to Florence the home of exquisite fashion and leather goods, history, art and mighty big churches.

Lisa (Tonys daughter) and her boyfriend met us at the train station and we walked to our apartment.....which was a good 20 minutes away.

There were lots of restaurants to choose from for dinner but we ate at La Galleria just past the Ponte Vecchio.....a recommendation from Peter and Karen (my brother and his wife). They had already been to Florence so it was handy getting some tips from them.

Tony and I on the Ponte Vecchio. You can't see it that well....I'm sure we'll get another photo tomorrow.

Lisa her boyfriend Rafa and I listening to street entertainment.

A day cruising the shops tomorrow then Tony and I are going to a chocolate and wine tasting in the afternoon. Belissimo!
