Paris - day 10 - Last day

Beautiful one day raining the next. From 30 degrees yesterday to 21 degrees today I had to get out my jacket, scarf and umbrella. I thought if it was another sunny day I'd wear my lovely dress I had made in Hong Kong but it wasn't to be.

We ventured out at about 11:30 and started the day with a cafe latte at the local cafe round the corner. It was very noticeable that there weren't the crowds today as there was yesterday and I wondered if it was the rain or that Sunday was their day of rest. What I did notice was the lack of locals and a lot of tourists, including ourselves, silly enough to go out in the pouring rain.

We went to another museum right next door to the Louvre....which we realized we could have gone to yesterday. It was the museum of arts and fashion. I was so excited as I thought it would be about the history of fashion since the 17th century. It was, however, an exhibition of the fashion designer Hussein Chalayan...who I haven't heard of. But his exhibition was pretty impressive...even Tony thought so too. We watched a fashion parade on the big screen of his gorgeous designs. But the piece de resistance were about 5 dresses, each different, that would start off as one design and mechanical change into another design.....which got a lot of ooos! and aaahs! from me. You had to see it to believe it. Absolutely fascinating.

We bought a few souvenirs and Paris trinkets before we headed home to rest and pack our bags for our next grand adventure.

Any excuse to buy another hat!

Not sure what was happening here ......it looked like it was a fashion shoot. They were beautiful gowns!

We are going to have dinner at our favourite local cafe where we had our cafe latte this morning and then an early night. We need to be on the road to Orly airport by 6:30am.

So, what did I think of Paris?

On the first day we flew in, just getting off a 14 hr flight, being so cold and not prepared for it I have to say I didn't like Paris......it was noisy, dirty, grey and dull. But once we settled in and got our bearings I completely fell in love with Paris. I love the easy going life style. People walking their dogs everywhere and even having lunch with them in the cafes. Heaps of traffic moving quickly and bikes and cyclists darting in and out and safely getting to where they are going. I loved listening to the French accent and wishing I could partake.

The highlight of the trip ..... apart from going to Chanel.....would be the food. I can't believe how fresh and of the highest quality it was and so reasonably priced. When we ate out one night I had a steak that I have never tasted such tenderness back home and the way they can make steak, chips and salad look and taste gourmet. We bought tomatoes that tasted like tomatoes......oh my goodness! and strawberries that were perfect and red right though. Tony said the tomatoes will be better in Greece!

I think when Tony retires we should come here for 3 months or so. Instead of doing an Eat,Love,Pray we could do an Eat,Spend,Play!

Hopefully I'll be able to keep up my daily blogs. I'm not sure what our Internet access will be like in Italy. We will be flying to Naples tomorrow and hiring a car and driving down to Sorrento......Ahhhhh! I'm leaving that to Tony. He's used to driving on the other side of the road from living in Germany. We'll be meeting up with my other brother Peter and his wife Karen for 2 days. I'm looking forward to some warmer weather.

J'aime Paris ...au revoir!
