Paris - Montmartre - day 6

I thought I'd show you a map of where we are staying in Marais. The little black circle at the top right corner is where put apartment is. George Pompidou centre on the left and the Notre Dame down the bottom of the map......so we are quite central.

Even though we were up early we started our day at 11:30am with a coffee at Starbucks. We have been doing really well with speaking French but Tony is more adventurous than me. But because Tony speaks fluent German when he asks for something it's a combination of English, French and German. So he figures he's covered all bases lol!

We then boarded a hop on hop off red double decker open top bus and took in the sights of Paris to get our bearings and then decide on the places we'd like to revisit. Here are the highlights of our tour.

I had to take this photo for my daughter .... She is a great fan!

After our bus tour we caught the metro to Mont Martre where i just fell in love with all the fabric shops. Poor Tony had not been feeling well with a sore throat and he didn't complain about me rummaging through about 5 different shops. Two shops had 5 floors of fabrics. The fabric shops in Paris, ladies, are just fabulous. Full of exquisite fabric and all quite reasonably priced. I found a remnant shop and my addiction for fabric took over and I was like a woman possessed. Needless to say I purchased quite a few pieces of just gorgeous Italian cotton fabric. I was in heaven.

We then walked the zillion steps to Sacre Coeur and the view was just spectacular. There were street performers who were very entertaining. One man was balancing on a column doing tricks with a soccer ball.....we saw him twice and he always received a big round of applause. We ventured inside the Sacre Coeur Basillica and O M G it was breathtakingly beautiful and an awesome feat of engineering. We lit a candle for Tonys dad who passed away at the beginning of the year....which made me a bit sad.

We stopped off for a rest and recharge of drinks and a beautiful cheese platter. The French really know how to do their food. We went back down the hill then to Moulin Rouge.....which was a bit of a let down as it was so small but still we had to see it and take the obligitory photo.

We took the Metro back home. The Metro system in Paris is so fast and they go every 5 mins. It is a great way to get around Paris in a hurry. Because Tony works for Queensland Rail he was very impressed with the Paris rail system.

These are just the tip of the iceberg for all the photos Tony has taken so far. Maybe we should do a slide night of our holiday when we get home!

We may visit the Louvre and Champs Elyssee tomorrow if Tony is feeling up to it.

  4. Hey mum and dad,
Tony is feeling a little better. He is a tough.....I don't think he wants to miss out on anything.
To actually see the statues up close is amazing rather than seeing them in a book. We are going to the Musee d Osay tomorrow. It has artwork of Van Gogh etc...should be good.
    Xxx
