We made it to Paris and I'm feeling quite good with not too much jet lag but I feel as though I've been awake for 24 hrs. The 12 hr flight from Hong Kong to Zurich was good.....I slept for about 7 hrs with a little help from a sleeping pill. Tony on the other hand can sleep through anything and adjust to anything! Got into Zurich at 6am with a connecting flight to Paris at 7:30am. We arrived in Paris at 9 and breezed through immigration and customs. Paris was freezing cold after being in Hong Kong in sweltering temps. We had to wait for about 45 mins to be picked up by a shuttle bus and be dropped off at our door.....can highly recommend the Paris Shuttle Bus.
We are staying in an apartment in the Marais district which is on the right bank very close to the George Pompidou Centre. Oh! Did I mention that we have to walk up 4 flights of stairs to get to our apartment? Our legs will be getting a good workout indeed but I don't think we will lose any weight because of all the gorgeous food and beautiful French pastries!
Our apartment is just beautiful. It consists of 1 bedroom, kitchen with a dishwasher, bathroom with washer dryer, lounge with tv and wi fi Internet and a small foyer. We thought we'd stay with the Parisians for the week rather than a hotel room. As it turns out it's cheaper. We opened the big lounge windows and we can hear Parisian life drifting up! Tres Bon!
We dropped ours bags off and went out for lunch and a look around. Marais is a very pretty area with lots of cafes and beautiful fashion shops. We went over to Notre Dame and came back as we were really starting to feel a bit exhausted. As we have a lovely kitchen we went and bought some fruit and veg and groceries. Bananas are about $3 kg.....so Tony is very excited as he's been missing out on them because they've been too expensive at home.
It was a bit difficult asking for what we wanted to eat but the lady who served us was very nice and pleasant.....I'm sure she could speak English but chose not to. I'm sure we'll get used to the basics.
I love this photo.....a dog that goes to lunch with his owner....very Parisian!
Notre Dame
Tomorrow we will be exploring the Montmartre area.....mmmm! More fabric shops, Moulin Rouge, Sacre Coeur.
